Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana, also known as DDU-GKY in short, is a youth employment scheme by Government of India. DDU-GKY, a part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), was launched on 25 September 2014, the 98th birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya.

The main objective of DDU-GKY is to enable the rural poor youth financially more independent by transforming them into significant workforce thus empowering India. DDU-GKY targets poor youth within the age group of 15-35 years. Poor families are capable to add more income with the help of DDU-GKY scheme. DDU-GKY furnishes a guide to the career ambitions of rural youth. DDU-GKY helps the rural poor youth to strengthen their preferred skills which are beneficial to cater to employment opportunities to them.

Eligibility to apply for free skill training provided under DDU-GKY scheme


If you belong to any of the below-mentioned groups then you are eligible for DDU-GKY scheme.

  • You are unemployed or work as labor.
  • You are earning a daily wage.
  • If at least one person in your family has worked for 15 days in the MGNREGA scheme in the last year.
  • If any of your family members belong to a Self-Help Group (SHG).
  • If you fall in the age range of 15 and 35 years and committed to working hard. 35+ years women, disabled persons, and helpless groups such as victims of human trafficking etc, are benefited with relaxation in age limit.

  • In today’s date, DDU-GKY has over 1,100 Training Centres across the country providing training in 330+ job-oriented trades and preparing the candidates for a better future. Go through http://ddugky.gov.in/map-listing and find a DDU-GKY training Centre near you. 
  • DDU-GKY offers a special program called “Himayat” for Jammu and Kashmir candidates, and also a special program called “Roshni” for the candidates living in one of the districts affected by Left Wing Extremism.


Documents required for joining the training program by DDU-GKY:

Proof of Identity and Age

Aadhaar Card, Voter ID Card or any government-issued photo ID card – any one of these. Birth Certificate required in case Date of Birth is not mentioned in any Identity Card.

Proof of Eligibility that you fit for DDU-GKY:


  • MGNREGA worker card of any member of your family member who worked for minimum 15 days of finished work.
  • Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) or BPL PDS card of your family
  • Your BPL Card (Below Poverty Line card) or your family BPL card including your name 
  • Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) card of your family
  • NRLM-Self Help Group identification or certificate for any of your family member.

If claiming reservation or relaxation in age limit then you need to provide the documents as specified below:

SC/ST Certificate along with any of the above-mentioned documents. This must be issued by the knowledgeable authority. Disability Certificate along with any of the above-mentioned documents. This must be issued by a Registered Medical Practitioner.

Benefits to the candidates joining Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY):



Candidates joining DDU-GKY program are provided absolutely free skill training at the Training Centre. There is not any kind of fees or charges imposed on the candidates. Additionally, they are provided with below privileges at no cost.
  • A Bank Account in their name.
  • Aadhaar Card or other similar bio-metric ID Card.
  • Uniform, books, other learning materials such as access to the computer or tablet are provided for free.
  • Travelling and meal cost transferred directly to the candidates’ bank account. Free accommodation and food in case of a residential training program. 
  • DDU-GKY Skill Training Certificate from NCVT or SSC provided to the candidates after successful completion of the training program.
  • After completion of the DDU-GKY Skill Training program interviews, placement opportunities at no cost and a job at a salary of Rs. 6,000/- per month minimum. You might be placed in abroad jobs also.
  • Candidates are supported financially after job Placement with salary top-up in some conditions. 
  • Free counseling and guidance from the training center or Migration Support Centre.
